Work Day Wednesday

The afternoon drags
clock hands seeming to stay still.
Quitting time? A dream.

Absence makes the heart
grow fonder. But really, was
I not fond enough?

On this afternoon
I sing and can't help but think
love is all you need.

Transcription is hard
when your air conditioner
drowns out all the words.

Hud's like an oven;
I would fry if it were off.
Hike that volume up.

Note: Hud is the nickname for Huddleston, the building where I work.

Kingdom of Loathing

Kingdom of Loathing
Great game that it truly is
Has eaten my brain.

I might miss the thoughts
Which in past days did fill it
But, no more worries!

Work

Others are so rude
They live to cause me trouble
I wish they would stop.

At least Friday's soon
A weekend of freedom nears
A reprieve from work!

Plural of haiku

Typing "duck" often
for kids' TV, don't let it
come out "dick" or "fuck"

Boy Least Likely To
Are playing King Tut's next week
I hope they'll be good!

Sing, "Quack quack, flap flap
Do the duck!" repeatedly
It sticks in your head

Now it's three o'clock
Only an hour till I can leave
Go home and read more!

Paper writing

I have a paper
due before my class today
and it is not done

Sixty minute lunch
hopefully will be enough
to get it all done

Unless I can sneak
During work and write it then
Wish me lots of luck

you, printer, have decided:

Deliverance

Like the tardy spring,

It slips through rainstorm curtains:

At last, a trolley.

Poetry is lost
in translation, they tell me;
I beg to differ.

Mediaeval verse,
how it sparkles! Here am I,
lost in translation.

(Note: I'm British. To get the correct 5-7-5 structure, you have to read this in British English, giving "poetry" the full three syllables and "mediaeval" four. So, if you thought it clunked the first time, read it again, and this time pretend you're the Queen. *grin*)

Two singers

The first singer

Such a fine voice, and
you are not quite of this world;
are you an angel?

Whatever you are,
I forget you are distrait
the moment you sing.

* * * * *

The second singer

All I know of you
is a voice, just a pure voice,
no-one behind it;

that voice is perfect
against a background of snow,
sapphire in white gold.
